About NewMexicoPetsALIVE!
Many cities and counties across America are now saving 90% - 97% of their community's lost and homeless pets! After learning about the high levels of success of our neighboring states and the ways in which their successes were achieved and their communities transformed, New Mexico Pets ALIVE! is embarking upon one of the largest companion animal life saving efforts in New Mexico. We are creating easily accessible educational and programmatic resources for the public, rescue groups, animal control depts, shelters and governing boards as well as city, county and state leaders across New Mexico to help increase the save rates of New Mexico's lost and homeless companion animals.
Ten years ago the United States had only one community saving all healthy and treatable homeless pets in both private and municipal shelters. That is our definition of a No Kill community. Today, we are fortunate to now have 27 economically, socially and culturally diverse communities across the United States who have achieved this same level of success, with 8 more communities on the verge of achieving the same. Here in New Mexico, we have wonderful rescue groups and animal welfare organizations but we did not have an organization to speak to how we can duplicate this same level of success in our shelters across NM so that, along with a life changing event, is how New Mexico Pets ALIVE! was founded the end of May, 2011. Our focus is on providing informational and programmatic resources to help save lost and homeless pets while also working to support other groups who have boots on the ground helping our neglected NM pets who are not homeless. We do this via our vast networking efforts. Duplicating the success of our neighboring states and creating 21st century solutions for our homeless pet challenges to replace methods and strategies that aren't working for the benefit of NM pets and pet guardians, is what we work toward everyday.
