About Tsunami Animal People Alliance
Tsunami Animal People Alliance (TAPA) A non-profit organisation born from the tragedy of the 2004 Boxing Day Asian Tsunami. The founders were active in the initial disaster response for Sri Lanka - coordinating and implementing mass vaccination of roaming and displaced dogs and cats, to avert a potential Rabies outbreak.
The veterinary charity has evolved and developed a workable and sustainable evidence-based strategy to provide humane animal population control and healthcare for stray (community) animals and pets belonging to impoverished people.
Free of charge surgical operations, treatments + vaccinations are delivered via mobile field clinics.
Community health and animal awareness/education programmes run in conjunction with every outreach.
TAPA are working across Sri Lanka - reaching into the recovering tsunami regions, refugee villages in the former conflict zone and flood-hit rural areas - some that have never previously seen a dedicated animal welfare mission .
An average of 500+ animals per month are sterilized, vaccinated and treated.
Volunteers from veterinary, medical and educational backgrounds are always welcome.
Financial donations and sponsorship - as well as 'in-kind' donations of essential supplies are always needed.
